JUDGE DALE.
This newspaper has repeatedly said
unkind words as to Judge Dale. To be
lair, we admit that personal feeling en-
tered into this matter.
Of Judge Dale as a dispatcher of
local business alter thirty or forty years
of observation, his equal we do not
know. As to his decisions aud de-
meanor on the bench there is but noth-
ing elst to say than that complaints nre
few.
Judge Dale lias proven himself to be
an entiring worker. The heavily
crowded docket has been, and is being,
waded through intelligently. The many
who wore clamoring for decisions haye
been accomodated, and, we believe
justice has been done. We wish tlist
the same could be said concerning all
of his associates.

HORSE NOTES.
Too mi cu coarse food has made thou-
sands of horses unsound.
Trottixo through sandy or muddy
places and on rising grades exhausts a
horse rapidly. In such places gc
slowly.
Horses were never so cheap as now,
quality considered, ami yet the best
authorities allege that with propel
care and descrimiuation there is still
good monej' In the business.
Senator Mitcueu . well known as a
breeder of trotters, has introduced a
bill in the I nited States senate prohib-
iting racing in the District of Colum-
bia from December 1 to April 1.
I "nth. a young horse reaches ma-
turity his circulation is not so strong
as it afterwardsbccouies: consequently
he is more subject to the ill effects of
jarring from fast work and tension
from heavy drawing, which shows it-
self in connection with the fetlock
joints by swellings « f various kinds.

which to stand.

PRETTY FEMININE CONCEITS.
One of the pretty conceits of the day
is a boudoir made entirely of white
fur. Very large white fur rugs are also
greatly in vogue, aud are not expen-
sive, three good-sized goat skins sewn
together making a reasonably large
rug.
A HANDSOME cover for a piano can Jx
made by using a square of plain satin,
with border twelve or fifteen inches
wide of gold or silver wrought
satin. A center of pale gray, with s
border of still paler gray, or a plain
yellow center, with gold-wrought U r-
dcr, is very effective.
The elaborate millinery lamp shades
have overreached the mark and are no
longer considered in the best • f taste
by people with pretentions to refined
artistic taste in such matters. The
softlv-tinted, fluted psrcelain shades
or the plain ground glass globes toned
down by a simple little silk shade, are
always pleasing.
A bamboo lounge gives one cold
chills, but it can be transformed into a
thing of beauty with small expense.
Get golden brown or dark red cordu-

for the seat and back. They can be
made in sections and tied to the
lounge; then have three or four big
down pillows covered with India silk
